Hospital Partners

Snow City Arts brings our programs to the patients of Rush University Children’s Hospital, Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, and Children’s Hospital University of Illinois. We inject all of these programs, personnel, and resources into the daily operation of each hospital we serve. Snow City Arts is proud to have long-standing partnerships with four of Chicago’s largest medical centers:

Rush Children’s Hospital

Snow City Arts operates at Rush through the generous support of the Rush University Medical Center.

At our flagship location, Rush Children’s Hospital, Snow City Arts’ Teaching Artist program is fully integrated into the pediatric unit with the support of Child Life Services. These caring professionals know the who, where, when, and why of each patient’s arrival, and they actively work with Snow City Arts to make effective connections between Teaching Artists and young patients. Teamed with the guidance and expertise of Child Life Services, Snow City Arts is able to have a stronger impact on the children we serve.

John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County

Snow City Arts operates at Stroger Hospital of Cook County through the generous support of the Auxiliary of Stroger Hospital of Cook County.

Snow City Arts began working with young patients at Stroger Hospital in 2003, integrating its program into the hospital’s pediatric unit. Stroger has one of the finest trauma care centers in the Midwest, and is the largest free care provider in the region, serving the city’s sizable community of need.

Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital

Through the generous support of the Children’s Memorial Foundation, Snow City Arts is pleased to partner with Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Illinois’ largest freestanding hospital exclusively for children. By working side by side with Child Life Specialists and the Department of Family Services, Snow City Arts offers innovative, arts-based educational programs to some of Chicago area’s most critically ill children in an advanced care setting.

Children’s Hospital University of Illinois

The newest site for Snow City Arts is the third children’s hospital in the Illinois Medical District: Children’s Hospital University of Illinois (CHUI). CHUI, Rush University, and John H. Stroger Medical Centers are close collaborators for pediatric cancer research through the Children’s Oncology Group. Together they educate the next generation of pediatric cancer specialists through their combined Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, and most importantly, they work together to provide state-of-the-art therapies for all children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer.

CHUI’s Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Mary Lou Schmidt, MD, observed the Snow City Arts’ Teaching Artists working with patients while making rounds at Rush University Medical Center. She is passionate in her desire for the children at CHUI to have the same opportunity to work with our artists and, thanks to funds raised by UIC medical students and a generous donation from the Friends of UIC Pediatrics, she obtained the initial support necessary to start a new Snow City Arts program at CHUI. Snow City Arts has recently expanded its programming to the Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Unit at CHUI.
