Through our Music Workshop, children now use hours in the hospital to learn how to play the guitar or piano. Children who have never picked up an instrument, have left our Workshop and the hospital with the new ability to play. Our Musicians-in-Residence also teach children to read sheet music, compose songs, use music software, compose and record original songs, understand music theory, and learn the history of musical genres. Young ones learn to find rhythms and beats, explore elements of music and composition through rhythm exercises while older patients learn to play instruments and become involved in music theory. All children in our Music Workshop can learn to how to write, mix, and digitally record their own songs.
Along the way children explore the music of cultures around the world, how to construct instruments, and collaborate with fellow patients in other hospitals on original recordings.
