Snow City Arts is thrilled to announce its newest hospital partnership, and its first venture outside the city of Chicago! We have recently started working on the pediatric unit at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois.

Snow City Arts is the only organization of its kind working in the Chicagoland area. Since 1998, Snow City Arts has transformed hospital rooms into art studios, inspiring and educating children and youth in hospitals through creating art.

Until this year, all of our services have been provided at one of four Chicago-based partner hospitals, Rush University Children’s Hospital, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and Children’s Hospital University of Illinois. With this new partnership, Snow City Arts will provide its award-winning programming to a new population of students in suburban Chicago.

For more than fifty years, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital has been a nationally-recognized acute care facility, along with a leading center for medical technology and one of the most extensive surgical hospitals in Illinois.

“We are delighted to bring the Snow City Arts program to Central DuPage Hospital so that our pediatric patients have an outlet to express their creative thoughts and feelings. These type of activities can indeed offer respite from the fears and anxieties often encountered when receiving medical treatment”, says Susan Fischer, RN, Clinical Director of Inpatient Pediatrics at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital.

The pediatric department at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital works in partnership with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital to provide exceptional pediatric health and wellness care. As Snow City Arts has been a partner with Lurie Children’s Hospital for more than 10 years, this new relationship will be a natural collaboration between the two organizations.

“Snow City Arts is thrilled to partner with Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, one of the premiere healthcare facilities in Illinois, doing groundbreaking work in their pediatric department. As our first venture outside the city of Chicago, we look forward to the opportunity to provide the highest-quality arts learning experiences to children and youth of DuPage County”, says Carrie Spitler, the Executive Director of Snow City Arts.

Snow City Arts will be offering visual arts, creative writing, and music five days per week at this new location. Work is underway to complete a new Idea Lab at the hospital. This will be a medical-free room on the pediatric unit, filled with musical instruments, books, iPads, and many other art supplies, which will provide students a creative space to pursue their artistic abilities.

You can head to our Staff Page to read about the teaching artists who will be working at this new location. Or check out the rest of our site to find out more about our programming.

Snow City Arts hopes this new partnership is just the first of many in the region. We look forward to introducing our work to numerous academic and cultural collaborators to give our students greater possibility to earn academic credit and pursue their artistic dreams.
