Instruction Guides accompany each workshop and include: learning objectives, materials, resources, steps, methods for differentiated instruction, and Illinois State Common Core and Arts Learning standards

Step-by-Step Guides provide workshop content in a detailed step-by-step format, allowing users the opportunity to complete workshop without video instruction

IF I WERE A BIRD…

Learn how to sculpt a 3D clay bird with paper wings that incorporates global flags and geography. This workshop also provides an introduction into bird migration, and explores female aviators Bessie Coleman and Amelia Earhart.

TWO-PIECE CONCEPTUAL COLLAGE

Through the simple act of bringing two elements together, learn how to make a collage that uses juxtaposition and proportion to create symbolism You will also be introduced to artists Romare Bearden, Marcel Duchamp and John Stezaker.

CREATURE CREATIONS

Learn how to use the SculptGL application to create an original creature sculpture. You will also be introduced to artists Miyamoto Shigeru, Wangechi Mutu, Patrick Millicent, and Stuart Freeborn.

LEARN TO WRITE A PRAISE POEM

Learn how to write a poem inspired by Nigerian Praise Poetry using an anaphora technique. You will also be introduced to Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo, of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

LEARN A SING-A-LONG SONG

Learn how to create rhythmic patterns and sing a call-and-response song using your voice, body, or an instrument. You will also learn the history of Funga Alafia and be introduced to artists Pearl Primus and LaRocque Bey.
